Please read this section in its entirety. In order to be eligible, applicants must be 25 years old or younger as of August 1st, 2024, but must be AT LEAST 18 years old by the start of our project on August 1st, 2024, or be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian throughout the entirety of the project.

Applications will be accepted in the form of a public YouTube video with the title “Ex-Aequo Emerging Artists Initiative - YOUR NAME - 2024”

Application fee is $30, payable by Paypal (exaequoartists@gmail.com), Venmo (@exaequoartists), or Zelle (email). The video should be less than 15 minutes in length and should contain a spoken introduction to the music by the performer explaining why you chose this piece or program and any special meaning it has to you. We want to learn about you as a performer not only from your playing, but from your ability to speak with and connect to an audience as well. This is an important part of your application and we are very interested in learning about you as an artist, your connection to the music, as well as any stories or anecdotes that may improve the listening experience for the audience. Think of it as presenting yourself to an audience that knows nothing about you!

Performers may play any number of pieces as long as it fits within the 15 minute limit and is accompanied by some amount of introduction. How the player wants to introduce pieces is completely up to them, be it in between pieces or all at once.

Editing is strictly forbidden. The application should be one take from beginning to end including any talking. To be clear, you are not allowed to splice together your playing after your speaking introduction. All one take.

If selected, applicants MUST be available from August 1st-August 5th, 2024. Housing in Austin will be provided free of charge and we will reimburse travel costs up to $300.

If coming from overseas, there is a chance we can reimburse more.

• We cannot reimburse travel costs of your parent/legal guardian if and applicant under 18 is chosen. If applicant(s) under 18 are chosen, only a $300 travel reimbursement will be given, and housing must be booked separately and covered by the parents/legal guardian.

*The Ex-Aequo Emerging Artists Residency reserves the right, and the Applicant agrees to allow, theEx-Aequo Emerging Artists Residency, to produce and distribute, without restriction or fee, all recordings of the entire Initiative or parts thereof, including the application recording and recordings of the in-person Initiative itself.

 Applicants specifically agree for their name, portrait, picture, voice, and online audio and video participation to be recorded, and specifically agree to the broadcasting, televising, photographing, reproducing, transmitting, playing and showing of, the Applicant’s name, portrait, picture, voice, and audio and video recording, by any medium whatsoever, including, but not limited to, the internet, and on the Ex-Aequo Emerging Artists Initiative’s website and its various online social media accounts (Facebook, Snapchat, Instagram, etc.).

 The Applicant also agrees to make no claim whatsoever against the Ex-Aequo Emerging Artists Residency, or its officers, employees, volunteers, agents and/or assigns, resulting from the use at any time of any name, portrait, picture, voice, and audio and video recorded performances of the Applicant in the Initiative by the Ex-Aequo Emerging Artists Initiative.
